Sometimes, in the computer world things go wrong. You spill coffee on the keyboard and certain keys don’t work anymore. You play too many computer games and a key starts to stick or it pops right off. Sometimes the batteries die in your cordless mouse and you’re too lazy to go in the other room and get more. When you’re writing articles for the Voice and you need those special accents, but can’t be bothered to look in the symbol menu so you just ‘forget about it’, keep this issue handy.
Keystrokes are short cuts to mouse-ing world. Instead of browsing through menus upon menus to find one little ‘dot’, you can use ALT or CTRL to type them. Since this is the Alternative Issue, here’s a list of the shortcuts using the ALT key. Most Windows applications accept these keystrokes. MACs have their own version. You can do a search for “keystrokes” to find the options for other shortcuts for both Windows and MACs.
