It’s been how long since your last vacation? Oh that’s right, sixty-four days, five hours and forty-seven minutes but it seems like five-hundred, twenty-two days, 20 hours and 59 minutes. Memories of the beach in Thailand are faded and those pictures have yet to be printed off. The rice keeps piling up and lotions are running out.
There is a temporary solution to the bland noodles from 7-11 and refills on that great, green oil stuff! Head down to “First Square” and go to the third floor. One side has all the second hand phones, while the other side has a few clothing shops. Go past the clothing shops and you’ll see a “convenient store.” This store is great!
It’s basically a Thai/Philipino import store with all the noodles, tom yum, chili sauces, peanut sauces, oh and soap! For some reason there is Lux soap in every section. Noodles – soap, oil - soap, coconut stuff – soap, clothes – soap…it’s 10nt per bar. Anyway, you can also get Western deodorant, acne creams, dice, Mug’s root beer and so much more.
Now, it is not the best or most attractive store in the world. What it lacks in décor it more than makes up in goods. Going there and not knowing I was missing Mt. Dew until I saw it there for $20nt. Or those coated peanuts that I love in Thailand $20nt cheaper than what Carrefour sells them for. What they have is basically all the food stuff that we westerns love in Thailand and Philippines and can’t get here or if we can it is very expensive.
Don’t let the location get you down. On the floor above (4th floor) there is a second run movie theater where you can get two movies for $119nt. Combine the theater and the store and you get a great afternoon of movies, snacks and a little more food that you can take home to enjoy for the next week.
